Pinot Noir
Pinot Noir is a well-known grape variety that originated in Burgundy and is now grown in many wine-producing regions across the globe. This grape variety is known for its charming aroma, often showcases red berry flavours with hints of incense and spice. As it ages, it develops a silky texture and an alluring aroma of truffles, game, and leather, with minty and vegetal notes.
Not only used to make red wine, Pinot Noir is also used to make delicate and fragrant roses, sparkling wines, and Champagne Blanc de Noir. Although it is a challenging grape to grow due to its fragility, winemakers worldwide still attempt to produce it in a variety of styles that reflect their terroir. Classic French Pinot Noir wines are renowned for their complex earthy notes, while New Zealand’s version is characterised by its bright, herbal notes. In contrast, California’s Pinot Noir is known for its fruit-driven profile.
