“Bogan” is an Aussie slang term for a person whose speech, appearance, attitude, and behaviour are casual or unsophisticated. But underneath, they are intelligent, pride in where they are from, and a quick willingness to regale you with stories and tales. As an Australian in the heart of the Old World, Burgundy, this is a label Mark has always wanted to create. It allows him to play around with different styles and blends, a wine where he doesn’t need to follow the rules because a Bogan seldom does what he is told at the end of the day.
The 2022 “A Bogan In Bogandy” is a blend of Gamay and Pinot Noir. It has a vibrant purple color when poured into a glass. The aroma is characterised by fresh and wild berries with a hint of pepper from Pinot Noir and crunchiness from Gamay. The ripe yet fresh palate of this wine makes it very approachable and easy to like.
This is the same wine as Mark Haisma’s Coteaux Bourguignons, just with a different (more fun!) label.
