Lebanese Wines
Lebanon, with a winemaking history over 7000 years, is rich in history. Modern wineries in the Bekaa Valley date back to the 1850s, established and operated by Monks. Influenced by French winemaking, Lebanon produces traditional-style wines like Syrah and highly sought-after native Lebanese varieties. Located at the Mediterranean Sea’s eastern edge, bordering Syria and Israel, Lebanon enjoys a dry, sunny climate perfect for viticulture. The Lebanon Mountains shield the high-altitude Bekaa Valley vineyards, some over 3,000 feet. In contrast, the warmer southern Batroun area, north of Beirut, benefits from cooling Mediterranean breezes. Despite civil war, political unrest, and financial crises, Lebanon continues to craft complex, robust Lebanese wines that showcase rich tannins and spices.
