Located in the heart of Santa Barbara County, Presqu’ile (pronounced press-KEEL) is a small, family-run winery dedicated to making exceptional cool-climate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. 50% comes from their own coastal sandy soils and 50% from the hallowed Bien Nacido vineyard just down the road. Their wines are picked at lower sugars and are aged in mostly old oak barrels to keep freshness, aromatics and maximum flavour whilst employing traditional, natural techniques to make the wine (wild yeast fermentation, native malolactic and lees ageing).
This is a Pinot that for us, really punches above its price point. The house Presquile Pinot Noir oozes flavours of red fruit and earthyness, showing nuances of juicy cherry, ripe raspberries, dried citrus, and spices, balanced by just a touch of tannin. A finish of slight bitter cacao, this pairs deliciously with game, sautéed mushrooms, or BBQ food.
