Founded in the 12th century by Cistercian monks, Château de Jau is an historical Roussillon estate where olive trees, cypresses and vine share the land, surrounded by wild garrigue. The growing conditions here are ideal: bright sunshine, complex mineral-rich soils (limestone, clay and schist) and the influence of the Mediterranean winds which temper the summer heat and air the vineyards, ensuring healthy and perfectly ripe grapes.
This wine is a classic Southern French red, made without any added sulphites. To achieve this the wine needs to be stable and exceedingly well made to naturally preserve itself. A beautiful blend of Syrah and Grenache, with incredible purity and freshness of fruit. Packed with flavours of red berries, sour cherry and dried herbs topped by a gentle, very Syrahesque, pepperiness, all wrapped by subtle floral aromas of violet and cedar. Incredibly fine tannins and perfect balance of fruit, alcohol and acidity.
Best served a little chilled, around 15/16 degrees.
