Castro Candaz, one of Raul Perez’s boutique collaborations, is a partnership with Rodrigo Méndez, himself a famous winemaker in Ribeira Sacra. The project focuses on different expressions of the region’s queen red grape, Mencía. Here, however, they have a go at Ribeira Sacra’s white Godello, grown on slate soils in the subregion of Quiroga-Bibei. The pair use a traditional, low intervention approach thus seeking the maximum expression of the grapes and the land.
The 2020 vintage is harmonious, tasty and balanced. The wine is matured in two 2,500L oak foudres, and a small part fermented and matured in amphorae with skins. It reveals elegant aromas and notes of stone fruits and citrus with a long and concentrated finish.
Only 6,000 bottles were produced for this vintage.
