See La Clave as the perfect introduction to Raúl Pérez and the pure character of Mencía, Bierzo’s queen grape. In his entry, more affordable wine he blends it with Alicante Bouschet (Garnacha Tintorera). Both varieties are planted on clay-limestone soils in the village of Ponferrada. Hand-harvested, the wine is fermented in stainless steel and aged for 12 months in used French oak barrels.
An intense, enjoyable and fresh wine, with deep aromas of blackberry, chestnut and acorn against a floral backdrop. Silky and opulent on the mouth, elegantly balancing minerality, fine tannins and intensity of fruit. Spicy, balsamic edge on the finish. Long and appetising.
