Camino del Norte is the collaborative project of two incredible Bierzo winemakers, Raúl Pérez and Luis Miguel Fernández. Their goal was to produce wines with a quintessential Atlantic profile, fresh and elegant capturing the specific terroir of old vineyards planted on the upper river Sil, between Valtuille and Cacabelos. The site benefits from milder temperatures thus yielding fruit that ripens slower and in a more balanced way.
El Tesón owes its name to the single vineyard it hails from and is an elegant blend of Mencía and Pinot Noir, from 100+-year-old vines. Manually harvested and selected, the wine is fermented whole-bunch (with its stems) and aged for 16 months in French oak barriques.
The 2015 vintage of El Tesón is a marvel of finesse and probably one of the most elegant wines that El Bierzo has produced in recent years. Ripe black fruits and black truffle dominate the aromatic profile, with complex notes of cocoa and fresh herbs. Very fresh on the palate, complex and balanced, with delicate floral flavours. With a quintessential Mencía finish and the trademark mineral elegance of Raúl’s Atlantic wines.
A perfect balance between volume and freshness in a wine that can age for at least 15 years.
