The van der Niepoort family are an iconic ‘legacy’ producer in Portugal dating back to 1842. Lesser-known than the big Port houses, in our view they are massively under-rated as a smaller, more precise winery and have a strong link with not just Port but also brilliant dry/table wines from all over Portugal.
Tiara is a fresh and elegant white wine from the Douro Valley. The slow fermentation and the altitude of the vines give elegance and freshness, whilst the age of the vines (an average of 60 years) is responsible for their concentration. With this being a 2009, it is rare, perfectly mature, developed and a shining example of Portuguese white wine.
The 2011 vintage shows intense mineral and fresh citrus notes, follow by white flower and green apple aromas and very delicate peppery notes. The palate is dominated by mineral character and stone fruit flavour with a rich texture. It is a wine with freshness, elegance and long ageing potential.
