Mark Haisma is an Aussie who made wine for a long time at the legendary producer, Yarra Yering in Victoria. In 2009 he decided to step up and make more serious wines in the capital of Chardonnay & Pinot – Burgundy! This wine is his foray into the next region he wants to be known for, the Northern Rhone.
The wine is from 65-year-old vines in a single plot called Les Combes and made in the cellars of famous Rhone winemaker Vincent Paris. The wine is elegant, aromatic and pure with intense. The nose is dominated by red berry fruit flavours whilst the palate is silky and elegant with pepper spiciness coming from the Syrah. This is a superb version of Cornas, showing all the best parts of this appellation aside a silky and elegant texture.
