Jean-Louis Chave has a gift for crafting absolutely transcendent Hermitage. This is partly achieved by the Chave family holding parcels in Hermitage’s finest vineyard sites (Les Bessards, Meal, l’Ermite, Peleat, and Les Beaumes), blending with unparalleled skill in his region. He’s quite rightly a Wine Icon for what would many to aspire to get to.
2004 stands out as a classic vintage that has gotten better as the years go by. It’s grown more complex, finer and more vividly mineral. The Hermitage 2004 has a gorgeous beam of currant and figs, surrounded by supple tannins and notes of coffee, worn leather, violet, liquorice and still with a mineral undertone. The finish is rich, super long and with nuanced detail laced into the layer upon layer that the wine has developed.
