This is the single vineyard of the original 1940s ‘old plantings’ in the historic heartland of the Piedmont hills. The extra money for this wine buys you precision, tension and the top example of this grape variety, from the best producer in the region.
Nas-cetta (‘Nas-chetta’) is the forgotten grape of Piedmont that almost went extinct. Le Strette was one of two passionate producers (turned vine hunters) to trace back the original vines and re-established the variety. It is now thought that hundreds of years ago Nas-cetta stood alongside Nebbiolo as the two local indigenous grapes of the region. This wine is a wonderful, complex journey, almost as if it were designed to go alongside food (just like it’s sibling Nebbiolo).
The wine is driven by a layered and complex set of flavours and aromas including citrus, waxy lemon and almond, underpinned by a salty saline minerality. Incredible with shellfish!
