Dating back to 1672, the Boxler family established a farm and vineyard in Niedermorschwihr, 6km from Colmar. Not until the 1950s, Justin Boxler started to produce and bottle wines, which marked the birth of Domaine Justin Boxler.
Charlotte and Florent, the 11th generation, are now the driving force behind the domains. Charlotte started her wine journey when she was young with her grandfather – Justin Boxler, and spent a few years in Burgundy, The Loire Valley and Germany before returning to Alsace. Florent, the cousin of Charlotte, worked with different winemakers in Alsace like Bott Geyl and Albert Mann along his wine journey. The new generation now join force to inherit the legacy while steering the estate towards an evolving chapter. The duo gained organic certification in the 2022 vintage after 13 years of conversion by embracing natural and organic practices.
Starting with 4 hectares in 1987, the estate has now grown into 12 hectares and produces 60’000 bottles per year from 4 Grand Crus and 1 Lieu-dit (similar to a Premier Cru in Burgundy). All fruits are harvested manually to ensure the selection of prime grapes, followed by natural fermentation facilitated by indigenous yeasts. The wines undergo a winter-aging process on lees in century-old oak barrels before being bottled in Spring and September, depending on the character of the wines.
Since 2021, Charlotte and Florent have aimed to produce more precise, fresh, and moderate alcohol level content wines. They have introduced different series of wines that focus on specific fruits, terroirs and Grand Crus.
The Fundamentals:
The “Imprints” series of wines are deeply marked by the terroir, the grape varieties, and the culture, but above all by the family DNA and the different generations. From the blended juice from different plots, they are fermented naturally thanks to indigenous yeasts. The aging on lees takes place during winter in hundred-year-old oak barrels followed by bottling in the spring.
The Origins:
This series represents the expression of a singular village. Blending fruits from the same plot, these wines reflect the sole influence of the Alsatian micro-climate in a bottle.
Grand Cru:
The Grands Crus wines are the expression of classified terroirs in a precise way. The fruits are pressed delicately and slowly for six hours, during which they aim to collect the subtle aromas in the process. All Grand Cru wines are aged for a minimum of a year with fine lees before bottling, resulting in a deep and complex flavour profile.
Late Harvest Wines:
These wines come from intensionally over-ripped grapes. These riper grapes offer extreme maturity in taste, giving this soft juice and aromatic power.
