Domaine Jamet is a producer which easily earn Wine Icon status as one of the most important and hallowed producers in the Rhone. Jamet is famous for making their wines with absolute regard for the land it is grown on; organic in many ways with an underlying respect for nature. The wines are made in a relatively traditional manner with some whole bunch pressing and are partly aged in old barrels in order to not have much of an influence on the purity of the fruit. All the grapes that go into their Cote Rotie come from the slate soiled terroir, known in the Northern Rhone as Côte Brune.
Jamet’s Cote Rotie shouldn’t need an introduction – it is such an amazing wine that at 20 years old it is now in its prime drinking window to show its full character. The wine is developed and tertiary with aromas of forest, earth, herbs, exotic spices, dark kirsch liqueur and mineral stone make up the complex perfume. On the palate, it still holds some fruit. The best way to describe it would be pure cherries coated with tinges of spicy cracked black pepper, gamey cured meats, stony, sweet yet mineral. Read to drink and enjoy.
