Andrew and Emma from Le Grappin are non-interventionalist in their approach and focus on the purity of the fruit that goes into their wines. Their Brouilly expresses exactly that as a fruit-forward, meatier style of Beaujolais. The vineyard site is high up on the slopes of Mount Brouilly which provides excellent exposure to the old vines, giving the wine both concentration, finesse and a flavour profile that is unique to this under-rated Beaujolais appellation.
Having spent 10 months in neutral burgundy barrels, the 2017 vintage is showing a bright pop of cherry along with notes of blackberry and a hint of fresh herbs. The mouth-filling palate is framed with precise acidity and well-integrated tannin. A delicious, structured and medium-bodied Beaujolais that offers complexity but is very approachable at the same time.
