Channing Daughters Pazzo is a unique and delicious fortified wine made from Merlot. After fermentation and fortification with neutral grape spirits, it was left in barrels for over 7 years. With half of the wine kept outside for further ageing like Madeiras, the other half of the wine was blended with rosato juice (sweet merlot juice). By adding a touch of sweetness, it achieves a perfect balance, length, and complexity.
This 2004 vintage is showcasing pale ruby colour in the glass. The wine-making process resulted in aromas and flavours of figs, caramel, orange peel, Christmas spices, raspberry liqueur, nuts, and dried fruit. On the palate, it is lively and layered with complex spicy characters.
This is a tribute to Madeira and reflects the adventurous spirit of its creators. With only 228 cases of half bottles produced, this wine is truly a gem from Long Island and maybe the world!
