An academic and philosopher before becoming a winemaker, Patrick Baudouin is a Loire maverick often referred to as ‘poet of terroir’. His wines are best described as ‘untamed’ and really express the specific plot they hail from. They are not manipulated or massaged into a style; they are wild in nature yet precise and clean in the glass. Quality is everything to Patrick and all grapes are hand-picked and hand-sorted so that only the best fruit goes into his wines.
Effusion Blanc is his round, textured and generous entry-level which is pressed straight into oak where it undergoes spontaneous fermentation. It has a classic nose of trademark Chenin Blanc aromas (lemon, herbs and a hint of straw) in a fresh, sunny and complex style. The palate is fresh, round and broad, with expressive minerality and touch of honey and spices. A pleasing grip on on the mid-palate supports the journey through to a long finish.
A wine that really isn’t trying to be more than just bloody great Chenin from the Loire!
