Greywacke is the family project of hallowed winemaker Kevin Judd, of Cloudy Bay fame. It is named after the greywacke river stones that can be found throughout New Zealand. Greywacke has a focus on quality and low-intervention winemaking, sourcing grapes from top vineyard sites and restricting yields to ensure maximum intensity and concentration of flavour. Greywacke’s flagship varieties are Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir, with limited releases of Riesling, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris.
Greywacke’s Pinot Gris is a ripe, opulent expression of the variety, with its generous fruit topped by moreish spice. An exotic Middle-Eastern mélange of poached quinces, sticky dates and tree-ripened figs, laced with vanilla bean, cardamom and hints of black liquorice. A voluptuous off-dry style with a long finish and lingering spiciness.
