Dagon Clan Sandridge

£50.00

Made in tiny quantities, this is the flagship wine of the Estate – what The Evening Standard called “the best wine Romania has ever produced”. The grapes are grown on a small sandy ridge (hence the name) and produce naturally low yielding, intensely aromatic grapes. This wine shows the true potential of the native red grape Fetească Neagră which is relatively unknown in Western wine tastes. In the glass the wine has an incredible, plush expression of dark berries, plums, pepper and spices and whilst tannins feature in the profile of the wine, they are finely integrated into an elegant, concentrated long and journey.

    About the Supplier
Romania has been edging itself onto the wine map for many people recently so I felt very lucky to be introduced personally to The Dagon Clan by a contact. As a new brand they had been tending to an ancient plot of the hillside which in centuries gone by, acted as a vineyard. 2 years in, their first vintage grapes were picked and made by critically acclaimed winemaker, Mark Haisma.

Artisanal and produced in limited quantities, Mark Haisma’s hand and palate are what has shaped such a great range. Feteasca Alba (white) and Feteasca Negra (Red) are the local grapes, blended in with Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. Blind taste tests have really fooled people and foiled stigmas around Romanian wine, we expect this name to be very popular. Extremely small yearly production with only a few hundred bottles of each wine per vintage.

    Sustainability scope
Whilst not certified, the grapes are grown on a biodynamic plot. The wines are made with minimal intervention, focusing on a balance between the natural elements that make the wine what it is, and the finished product. Sulphur and sulphites are used as little as possible and only in preservation during the winemaking process.
