“Less is more”, reflecting the concept of this wine. 70-100-year-old vines in the Douro provide the fruit for Niepoort’s masterpiece, superbly complex, fine and elegant wine. The vines sit on a colder north facing slope to enable slow and balanced ripening. Being one of the estate’s most premium wines, Luis the winemaker uses a very delicate vinification process with a long maceration (but little extraction), where all the fine detail can drop into the wine.
The 2013 vintage shows a beautiful, intense and vivid ruby color. Its complex aroma presents layers of mineral notes, wild berries, and a harmony of woody scents. As the wine opens in the glass, it will reveal notes of fresh spices, black pepper, and clove in an elegant way. The fine and elegant palate has a silky texture with a firm structure, and luxurious an polished tannins. The wine finishes with a fine, long, and seductive aftertaste. After 10 years of bottle aging, the wine has matured, yet it will continue to develop and age wonderfully for another decade.
