Vintage Beaucastel ‘Hommage a Jacques Perrin’ CNDP 2005

Château de Beaucastel has long been regarded as one of the greatest wineries in France, notorious for its elegance, poise and ageing potential. Beaucastel has an exceptional terroir at the Northern point of Châteauneuf du Pape, exposed to the cooling Mistral wind which provides such balance. All thirteen grape varieties of the Chateauneuf have been organically grown since the sixties; without a doubt, Beaucastel is a name we are proud to highlight and an organic wine icon that many have learnt from.

Coming mostly from a plot of old vines located behind the estate, the Perrin Family’s Châteauneuf du Pape Hommage à Jacques Perrin was first created in 1989 and is a tribute to the late Jacques Perrin, who passed away in 1978. Aged in large oak foudre and normally a blend of 60% Mourvedre, 20% Grenache, 10% Counoise and the rest Syrah, it’s only produced in top vintages with only 350 cases produced.

This 2005 vintage offers complex and elegant elements. This full-bodied and rounded Châteauneuf du Pape is layered with scents of ripe raspberry, blackcurrant, violets, cocoa and tobacco. On the palate, it is incredibly silky with assorted dark fruits, grind coffee and savoury note such as smoked meats, and crushed black pepper. With the years of bottle aging, the wine is open and ready to drink!
