The van der Niepoort family are an iconic ‘legacy’ producer in Portugal dating back to 1842. Lesser-known than the big Port houses, in our view they are massively under-rated as a smaller, more precise winery and have a strong link with not just Port but also brilliant dry/table wines from all over Portugal.
2003 has elegant, minerals. The taste continues fine, aggressive and with tannins, rich but not excessive and with a long final. Impressive finesse even though robust.
