Cume do Avia Souson

£30.00

Aged in century-old chestnut barrels, this wine speaks clearly of its high altitude and single-vineyard terroir. Souson (known as Sousão, across the border, in Portugal’s Vinho Verde region) is a relatively unknown grape, rarely seen in a single varietal wine. Its potential for elegance and terroir expression is, however, extraordinary – as  shown in this wine, produced with fruit hailing from old plantings in the ‘Dos Canotos’ plot.

The wine has lifted and elegant aromasof Asian spices, wild Mediterranean herbs, black cherry, black raspberry and forest floor. The palate is full yet super fresh, with juicy cherry, pomegranate, redcurrants and raspberries flavours leading onto an extremely long, cleansing finish. If tasted blind, you might think you’re sipping a Cru Beaujolais or a Gredos Grenache.
