This is a top-level expression of the Bardolino region Chiaretto rosé which combines minerality, complexity, texture and drinkability in perfect balance. What does that mean? This isn’t your bog-standard rosé, it is almost a very very light red. It is one of the first rosés fermented and aged in oak barrels in the area; this Chiar’Otto rosé changed the way of thinking about rosé in Bardolino.
This is made from vines planted in 1966 (!) and gains its texture and complexity from macerating the skins for an extended time. It is a juicy, light and phenolic wine which despite its light pink colour, drinks with texture, zing and complexity. Forget your usual boring rose, this has bags of orange zest and orange pith, citrus fruits, with an overall bitterness whilst still retaining some of the traditional red berry flavours you would expect. Unique and full of character, this a rosé to wow your friends and versatile enough to stand up to food.
