The van der Niepoort family are an iconic ‘legacy’ producer in Portugal dating back to 1842. Lesser-known than the big Port houses, in our view they are massively under-rated as a smaller, more precise winery and have a strong link with not just Port but also brilliant dry/table wines from all over Portugal.
The 2018 vintage has a garnet hue. It opens up with aromas of fresh red fruits, pink peppercorns and herbaceous notes. The palate is light and youthful, with a distinct acidity and freshness provided by the grape stalks. It has a firm and well-structured body, a spicy finish with elegance and linearity. Its time spent maturing in barrels gives it its unique flavour.
