The van der Niepoort family are an iconic ‘legacy’ producer in Portugal dating back to 1842. Lesser-known than the big Port houses, in our view they are massively under-rated as a smaller, more precise winery and have a strong link with not just Port but also brilliant dry/table wines from all over Portugal.
Made with fruits from 70 years and 100+ year-old vines, the 2008 vintage offers great complexity of aromas like earthy character, black fruit scents and peppery notes, the cigar aroma is elegantly integrated. On the palate, it is bold and precise, with concentrated dark fruit flavours and impressive freshness, supported by a fine tannic structure and a long-lasting ending.
2008 was an excellent year for the Douro wine region, with great ageing potential for many years in the bottle. It is a vintage to have if you are a follower of the producer! Only limited stock is available.
