The 2001 vintage is scarlet in colour, it has a complex nose of cigar box spice, warm leather, baked fruits, ripe morello cherries and blackcurrants. The palate has intense flavours of red cherries, dark chocolate, olives, figs and velvet smooth tannins on the very long finish.
“…Mid rust red. Pale rim. Rather heavy nose. Dense and mushroomy. Quite a contrast to the ethereal 1999. Dusty chewiness on the end after a slightly obvious sweetness at the start. Lacks a little bit of freshness, but there is some interesting maturation. Drink 2013-2028” Rated 17 /20 by Jancis Robinson in 2018.
