Xisto Amarelo is the top wine from the estate, showing the result of 10 years of work with the same vineyard. Yellow schist soil and a fantastic easterly exposure of the vines gives the perfect ripening conditions for the Touriga Franca grapes. The wine spends 18 months in large, traditional oak ‘foudres’ which allow it to breathe and develop slowly.
You’ll be able to see why this is the top wine they make as soon as it’s in the glass. It is dense violet in colour and has a nose of dark fruit, wildflowers (produced from the yellow schist soil) and a subtle pepperiness. In the mouth contrasts with fresh, black fruits, fruits of the forest, cherries and some white pepper. It is elegant, supple, layered and textural all while being finely grained with just enough tannins to make the finish very persistent and long. A top example of Douro red. Superb!
