The van der Niepoort family are an iconic ‘legacy’ producer in Portugal dating back to 1842. Lesser-known than the big Port houses, in our view they are massively under-rated as a smaller, more precise winery, and have a strong link with not just Port but also brilliant dry/table wines from all over Portugal.
The wine displays a beautiful and deep brown colour, just like chestnut with a russet hint. The 2004 vintage is intense and rich in aromas, featuring dried fruit, candied fruit and caramel. The palate offers a smooth and fresh mouthfeel, carried by a beautiful acidity and distinct notes of dried fruit, elevated with a very long, elegant and velvety finish.
