Launching Bordeaux for the first time!

Launching Bordeaux for the first time!

You might not know that until recently, we did not carry any Bordeaux producers in our wine portfolio. The plan for Bordeaux was always to identify a selection of châteaux that shared a similar ethos to Wanderlust and its approach to wine: a true sense of place, family-owned and sustainably farmed, either organically and/or biodynamically. Ideally, this would be a mix of small independent Chateau exclusive to Wanderlust and Cru Classé wines. Not an easy task, yet this is exactly what we are finally presenting you today.

Chateau grand francais Bordeaux

CHÂTEAU GRAND FRANÇAIS
Bordeaux Supérieur

A great find, Château Grand Francais are the perfect fit for Wanderlust, family owned and pioneers of organic viticulture. Situated just north of Saint-Émilion with 19 acres of vines, it was clear upon first tasting that Château Grand Francais was right for us, blending tradition with modern know-how. The wines are a blend of Cabernet, Merlot and most importantly Cabernet Franc giving the wines a lifted aromatic complexity and elegance.

chateau Frédignac

CHÂTEAU FRÉDIGNAC
Bordeaux, Vin de France

A mischievous choice, a Bordeaux château that produces a uniquely expressive Vin de France, so much so that we couldn’t resist! The fresh, fruity quality of the wine was the perfect balance to the more traditional styles we’d been tasting. From the village of Saint-Martin-Lacaussade, very close to Blaye, Le Canon de la Goulue is organically certified, made without intervention and in tiny quantities from Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, and Merlot.

CHÂTEAU MARJOSSE

CHÂTEAU DURFORT-VIVENS
Margaux 2ème Cru Classé

After a very inspiring morning spent in the company of Gonzague Lurton, there was no doubt these were the wines for us. Utterly committed to biodynamic farming his passion was infectious and the wines are simply stunning! Gonzague shared his story of the trials and tribulations of converting to biodynamic farming, this process he now feels perfectly illustrate the beauty and diversity of his unique terroir.

CHÂTEAU HAUT-BAGES LIBÉRAL

CHÂTEAU HAUT-BAGES LIBÉRAL
Pauillac 5ème Cru Classé

We thought we couldn’t be more inspired after our visit to Durfort-Vivens, however a short hop down the road and we arrived at Haut-Bages Libéral. Occupying prime Pauillac real estate with only Chateau Latour as direct neighbours Chateau Haut-Bages Libéral is owned by Clare Lurton, Gonzague’s wife. Claire was equally as passionate about sustainable and biodynamic farming and these wines represented some of the best value we tasted on out trip. The La Chapelle wines offer a glimpse into what the estate has to offer. We have chosen three classic vintages of the Chateau wine which we felt best showcase the remarkable quality on offer.
