The van der Niepoort family are an iconic ‘legacy’ producer in Portugal dating back to 1842. Lesser-known than the big Port houses, in our view they are massively under-rated as a smaller, more precise winery and have a strong link with not just Port but also brilliant dry/table wines from all over Portugal.
The year 2021 produced a classic vintage that showcases the elegance, structure, and acidity that only the Douro Valley can offer. Upon swirling, the wine reveals a beautifully concentrated ruby color with violet glints. The delicate aroma is layered with notes of aromatic herbs, floral scents, and hints of forest fruits that are complemented by smoky undertones. On the palate, this wine offers a balanced profile with body, roundness, and a touch of spice. Its outstanding acidity provides a long and expressive finish, promising longevity.
