Roger Barnier set out on the task of producing a Champagne that was not only for drinking, but also as something gastronomic, to complement and enjoy with food. Five generations of winemakers later, Roger Barnier’s development his own cuvées and style is still present on the current range. The champagne house operates 8 hectares of vineyards spread over 35 of their own plots, located in several villages of Champagne.
They believe in sustainable vineyard practises, in respecting the land and the earth, manual picking of the grapes for the gentlest of handling, and parcel separation of grapes during the winemaking process for great rare and unique Champagne wines.
The jewel in the crown of this producer is not just that the grapes are all their own (which is quite rare), but the age of their vines. As well as growing the more famous Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes, they consider themselves experts in Pinot Meunier and have vines that still produce grapes dating back all the way to 1910. Their flagship cuvee is 100% Pinot Meunier Champagne and lists the actual ages of every vine that contributes to Roger Barnier’s ongoing gastronomic legacy.
