The 1990 vintage is as much a tale of resilience as it is of wine. Harvest came early that year, prompted by the outbreak of war. On 27th September, trucks loaded with grapes were forced to take a 7-hour detour to avoid conflict zones, just in time. A blockade began the very next day, which would have prevented the grapes from ever reaching the winery.
Pale in colour with a translucent core and gentle brick hue at the rim. The nose is deeply complex with sweet tertiary fruit, dried cherry, and oxidative notes that align with the Château Musar style. Savoury undertones, balsamic hints, and layers of dried rose, cranberry, orange peel, and sandalwood swirl together, offering both delicacy and depth. The palate is vibrant and lifted with bright, assertive acidity that frames a lighter-bodied structure than typical Musar vintages.
There’s something clearly unique about this wine, distinct from the norm, yet not at all flawed. A vintage bottle that is filled with story and history. The 1990 vintage is truly a piece of living history in a glass.
