Russo ‘a Rina Etna Rosso

£35.00

Giuseppe Russo is a quiet thoughtful man, formerly a pianist. In 2005  he founded his estate, named Girolamo as a tribute to his father, and has since been making organic wines in his family’s old vineyards. The vines, many of which aged 100 years, are planted at high altitude on ancient lava flows. This is the magic terroir that provides the trademark minerality and salinity of Russo’s wines.  Taste them and you will easily understand why Giuseppe has gained a cult following, alongside other iconic Etna producers such as  Frank Cornelissen or Pietra Dolce.

‘a Rina, Russo’s estate red blend, is a joy to drink and an outstanding showcase of the Etna terroir. It drinks like a very complex Pinot Noir, with the firm mineral backbone that only a volcanic terroir can deliver. Fresh, mineral nose with notes of cranberry, strawberry, plums and a touch of tobacco leaves. The palate is both generous and lean  with firm Nebbiolo-like structure, and flavours of pomegranate, prunes and white pepper. Fresh and complex, with supple fine-grained tannins and a delicious zingy grip. Long finish with lingering herbal notes. A pleasure to drink now but also with great ageing potential.
Fabulous with light pasta dishes, seafood and grilled light meats.
