The van der Niepoort family are an iconic ‘legacy’ producer in Portugal dating back to 1842. Lesser-known than the big Port houses, in our view they are massively under-rated as a smaller, more precise winery and have a strong link with not just Port but also brilliant dry/table wines from all over Portugal.
The 1994 Niepoort Late Bottled Vintage Port is currently showing exceptionally well. It offers a dry character, complemented by ripe berry aromas and a refreshing acidity. Its acidity enhances the experience, while the wine is filled with robust tannins and an immense concentration of black fruit aromas. It has a delicate finish which is layered with notes of dried fruits, raisins, and sultanas, uplifted by the acidity of fresh plums.
