Vintage Beaucastel Chateauneuf du Pape 2011
£105.00
Château de Beaucastel has long been regarded as one of the greatest wineries in France, notorious for its elegance, poise and ageing potential. Beaucastel has an exceptional terroir at the Northern point of Châteauneuf du Pape, exposed to the cooling Mistral wind which provides such balance. All thirteen grape varieties of the Chateauneuf have been organically grown since the sixties; without a doubt, Beaucastel is a name we are proud to highlight and an organic wine icon that many have learnt from.
The 2011 vintage displays a bright crimson hue and offers up a sweet bouquet of spiced black cherries, plum, truffle, saddle leather and underbrush. Coming from tiny yields (which were down 50% from 2010), this full-bodied Châteauneuf du Pape is gorgeously textured with pronounced intensity flavour and depth, terrific fruit purity and ripe tannins. Relatively approachable and enjoyable even now, this block buster wine should nevertheless evolve gracefully for 15-20 years.
