Vintage Beaucastel Chateauneuf du Pape 1996 Magnum
£219.00
Château de Beaucastel has long been regarded as one of the greatest wineries in France, notorious for its elegance, poise and ageing potential. Beaucastel has an exceptional terroir at the Northern point of Châteauneuf du Pape, exposed to the cooling Mistral wind which provides such balance. All thirteen grape varieties of the Chateauneuf have been organically grown since the sixties; without a doubt, Beaucastel is a name we are proud to highlight and an organic wine icon that many have learnt from.
The 1996 vintage is generally recognised for its colder conditions but also had an excellent harvest season. After more than 25 years of aging in the bottle, the wine has developed an intense aroma of macerated red fruits complemented by notes of old leather and spices. On the palate, you can expect hints of dried black currant, prune, blueberries, and peppery undertones, along with a long-lasting acidity and a refined finish. The wine is now at its peak drinking window, so be sure to allow sufficient time for decanting before enjoying it.
