Chateau Saint Cyrgues

At the heart of the scenic landscapes of Costières de Nîmes in Southern France, the storied winemaking estate of Saint Cyrgues dates back centuries, previously housing (and now only ruins of) the church of Saint Cirice des Marges. Pre-dating the church and the need for wine for it and also the locals, winemaking in this area stretches back to the Roman era, when vines were first cultivated in the region.

Chateau Saint Cyrgues
Costières de Nîmes translates to ‘the slopes of Nimes’, describing neatly how it sits in between the rocky hills of Provence to the East and the sandy soils of the Camargues region to the West.

The area is blessed with a great mix of the warmth from the Southern French sun, refreshed by the hilly breezes and colder temperatures at night. The vineyards flourish thanks to limestone and clay-rich soil, with many of the vineyards also having the famous large stone – “galets”. The signature stone imparts a distinctive mineral character to the wines. It is the secret power engine behind renowned Chateauneuf du Pape red wines.

Saint Cyrgues red is a blend based on Grenache with a smattering of Marselan for depth – delicious with pasta, BBQ and hearty dishes. The white is made of Grenache Blanc, it is zippy and fresh yet has body – superb with lighter grilled and fish dishes. Loic being the younger trailblazer, of course, has also made an orange wine to make the range appealing to the younger and more modern audience.

Their wines are a great fit for the Wanderlust Wine. They embrace sustainable viticulture practices, nurturing a symbiotic relationship between nature and winemaking. This organic approach fosters biodiversity and allows the grapes to express the terroir and ultimately have more personality and character.
