Château La Coste

Aix-en-Provence, France

An homage to the high art of living

Château La Coste is much more than a wine estate. It is a concept at the crossroads of sustainable viticulture, art and fine dining. An invitation to discover the true, sun-kissed ‘joie de vivre’ of Provence.

Location: Aix-en-Provence, France

Website: chateau-la-coste.com

Interesting fact: One of La Coste’s most iconic wines, the pink Lady A, was created in partnership with artist Damien Hirst and Nick Jones, the founder of Soho House. Hirst illustrated the bottle, giving the wine the artistic imprint that has made it so famous in its own right. The wine was once exclusive to Soho House venues and we are now – proudly – making it available through our website!

Château La Coste wines

To think of Château La Coste as a wine estate is to look at but a small part of a holistic project dedicated to all the good, sublime things in life: wine, food, nature, art, wellness, travel, and mindfulness.

The domaine is a unique hub that attracts as many art lovers as it does passionate wine drinkers and inquisitive architecture students. The wines, namely the iconic range of roses, are as famous as the winery, designed by French superstar architect Jean Nouvel or the estate’s sculpture park, which includes works by a breath-taking line up of artists and architects. From Louise Bourgeois, Ai Wei Wei and Franz West to Hiroshi Sugimoto or Alexander Calder, the grounds are a true forest of masterpieces. If not satisfied, one can take refuge in the exhibition gallery, designed by another architecture genius: Renzo Piano.

Foodies will certainly not be disappointed either, with three restaurants awaiting them onsite: the locally-inspired La Terrasse Provençale; the exclusive Francis Mallmann, dedicated to the art of the idiosyncratic Argentine chef patron; and a more casual brasserie designed by the Pritzker-winning Japanese architect Tadao Ando.

Each space and element in the La Coste universe have been carefully thought through, and are at one with a philosophy that brings design, sustainability and high-end hospitality together. Chateau La Coste has built its reputation on a relentless attention to detail, from vineyard management to labelling, as well as on a holistic understanding of ‘joie de vivre’.

Surrounding the iconic building and art works, 200 hectares of vineyards, pine trees, olive groves and oaks set the true canvas for this universe, whose ethos is ‘bespoke abundance’. If the sun of Provence delivers rich, flavourful grapes these are treated with care, under organic and biodynamic principles, to produce the wines that have allowed the La Coste’s name to travel the world. When in truth, it is this domaine in Provence that, with its unique art collection and architecture excellence, encapsulates a whole world in itself.
