A pioneer of British biodynamic farming
Nick Wenman planted Albury Vineyard in 2009 after retiring from the IT industry to pursue his dream of owning a vineyard. With an uncompromising passion for quality wine, Nick believes that the key to the success of the final product is a full commitment to organic and biodynamic farming principles which he implemented from the very beginning.
Location: Surrey, UK
Working with us since: 2019
Viticultural standards: Organic and Biodynamic (non-certified)
Website: www.alburyvineyard.com
Our pick of the best wine from this producer: Silent Pool Rosé
Interesting fact: Taking a vineyard to organic standards costs twice as much in ongoing management & maintenance to keep on top of rot, bugs, frosts and other common farming issues. Being an organic farmer implies a very special investment of work, care and resources.

How we found them/How Richard found them:
Albury quickly picked up a name for themselves as one of England’s best vineyards and with their strong ethics in organic farming, they were a natural fit for Wanderlust. We are very lucky to have their range of wines showing what well-maintained native Surrey vines can produce under the best, most sustainable farming practices.
Albury Vineyard is situated on the southern slopes of the North Downs in the beautiful Surrey Hills, just outside Guildford. The vines are the traditional Champagne varietals of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, as well as some Seyval and Pinot Gris. Committed to producing English wine of the highest quality (one still rosé and a fantastic range of sparkling) they grow their fruit under biodynamic principles, strictly avoiding the use of chemicals.
Albury is a family-run project, with Nick’s daughter Lucy now part of the leading team and granddaughter Poppy a regular visitor (if only to visit the bee-hives and sneak a taste of the honey!).
