Vintage Roulot Mersault Luchets 2015

Domaine Roulot is renowned for the chiselled precision of the wines it produces, each expressing the intricate differences between appellations and crus. Jean-Marc Roulot has developed a uniquely elegant style that set a new benchmark for Meursault: mineral and restrained rather that the fat and creamy versions of yore. The vineyards have been farmed organically since 1999, with some experiments in biodynamics. The use of wood is subtle (only 20 to 30% new oak) and use simply to aerate without imparting flavour. The ultimate goal is to let the character of each plot to come through.

Les Luchets faces north-east and is one of the coolest spots in the hills above Meursault. Old vine concentration contributes to the weight of this zippy, zesty, saline white, adding a dollop of creamy intensity to the mid-palate. Les Luchets is one of Roulot’s more open, accessible wines. With very subtle wood the perfume is reminiscent of a stroll along the seashore. Austere bouquet, quite granitic with integrated cedar notes. Layers of warm, radiant fruit caress the palate in stunning and intensely focused style. Mineral notes linger on the finish, but the Luchets is essentially about fruit; Granny Smith apples, fresh pear and citrus notes against a backdrop of a perfectly balanced rich mouthfeel and crisp acidity. Village level white Burgundy at its magnificent best.
