The van der Niepoort family are an iconic ‘legacy’ producer in Portugal dating back to 1842. Lesser-known than the big Port houses, in our view they are massively under-rated as a smaller, more precise winery and have a strong link with not just Port but also brilliant dry/table wines from all over Portugal.
Tiara is a fresh and elegant white wine from the Douro Valley. The slow fermentation and the altitude of the vines give elegance and freshness, whilst the age of the vines (an average of 60 years) is responsible for its concentration.
The 2022 vintage displays the characteristic floral notes of the Códega do Larinho gape variety. The base notes offer aromas of citrus, aromatic herbs, peach and other stone fruit. The palate presents a good body and structure. It ends on a spicy note and lingers thanks to its outstanding acidity! This Tiara is a versatile wine which can be enjoyed at the beginning or the end of a meal.
The more patient you are, you will see the development of this wine to more sophistication and complexity direction. This wine is an absolute pleasure to drink when young, especially after decanting. However, it also promises fantastic ageing potential.
