Château de Beaucastel has long been regarded as one of the greatest wineries in France, notorious for its elegance, poise and ageing potential. Beaucastel has an exceptional terroir at the Northern point of Châteauneuf du Pape, exposed to the cooling Mistral wind which provides such balance. All thirteen grape varieties of the Chateauneuf have been organically grown since the sixties; without a doubt, Beaucastel is a name we are proud to highlight and an organic wine icon that many have learnt from.
The 2018 vintage was is characterised by brilliant weather conditions. Few points of rain, and very few issues in the vineyards all the way through until harvest. The resulting wines are beautiful. The complexity is gained through the Grenache and Cinsault being fermented in cement tanks, with the Syrah and Mourvèdre fermented in large oak foudre barrels.
The wine is a more muscular vintage Beaucastel with more depth and intensity. The wine is laced with a big black fruit and blackcurrant structure, dense and concentrated. Other nuances across the pallet are truffles, pen ink, liquorice, and iodine meatiness, all complemented by glorious levels of acidity and sweet tannin. It has a real energy and vibrancy through the wine (with certain long ageing potential) ending with a refreshing saline finish. We expect this vintage to be able to age for 20 years easily possibly out to 25+.
