Located in the heart of Santa Barbara County, Presqu’ile (pronounced press-KEEL) is a small, family-run winery dedicated to making exceptional cool-climate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. 50% comes from their own coastal sandy soils and 50% from the hallowed Bien Nacido vineyard just down the road. Their wines are picked at lower sugars and are aged in mostly old oak barrels to keep freshness, aromatics and maximum flavour whilst employing traditional, natural techniques to make the wine (wild yeast fermentation, native malolactic and lees ageing).
This is the Estate Pinot Noir, produced from grapes on their own coastal sandy soils which drain well and make the vines fight for water, producing impressively concentrated grapes. Slightly darker than the entry Pinot, the nose has a defined Santa Maria minerality alongside aromas of rose & cherry. In the mouth, you get a big, fresh mouthwatering burst of juicy raspberry, crystalline fruit red berries, prickly fruits and floral nuances. The coastal influence shines this wine with a fresh, yet complex Pinot from Santa Maria.
