Located in the heart of Santa Barbara County, Presqu’ile (pronounced press-KEEL) is a small, family-run winery dedicated to making exceptional cool-climate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. 50% comes from their own coastal sandy soils and 50% from the hallowed Bien Nacido vineyard just down the road. Their wines are picked at lower sugars and are aged in mostly old oak barrels to keep freshness, aromatics and maximum flavour whilst employing traditional, natural techniques to make the wine (wild yeast fermentation, native malolactic and lees ageing).
Their house Chardonnay displays the complexity and poise expected from Santa Maria Valley; it balances the edge between richness and vivacity with aromas of bright lemon, white flowers, a mineral citrus note and flavours of crisp pear, lime, green apple, citrus, acidity and chalky minerality. Steely and textured, it finishes on a long creamy lemon note and drinks fantastically now but will also age gracefully.
