The van der Niepoort family are an iconic ‘legacy’ producer in Portugal dating back to 1842. Lesser-known than the big Port houses, in our view they are massively under-rated as a smaller, more precise winery and have a strong link with not just Port but also brilliant dry/table wines from all over Portugal.
1994 is showing very well right now – aromas of coffee, wood, wildflowers and rose. Starting to show some wonderful bottle age, the palate has a mild bitter chocolate character and fresh dark fruits. Good weight, freshness and delicious finish.
