This wine is a project developed by iconic Portuguese producer Dirk Niepoort and a local winemaker from in Ribeira Sacra, Galicia. It takes its name from an old vineyard called Ladredo, high up on the slopes of River Sil. The wine was aged for 14 months in second-use French oak barrels to help it gain flavour, textural complexity and add softness to Mencía’s intense minerality.
Mencia indeed gives it an amazing, lifted aroma of ripe red cherry and red berries, alongside spices, black pepper and cinnamon. The palate it is still amazingly fresh and elegant with vibrant youth. Fruit and spicy notes dominate supported by that trademark minerality.
Soft tannins, great acidity and persistence. After 10 years of age, this wine is drinking beautifully but shows it can still age further.
