Kistler is synonymous with Californian benchmark Chardonnay, producing wines with incredible precision, measured richness and age-worthy elegance.
The Vine Hill, one of Kistler’s estate vineyards, has been produced for 30 years and is known for its incredible complexity. The golden sand ridge it is planted on is the basis of the luscious complexity that makes this their textbook Chardonnay.
“A Chardonnay of delineated concentration, energy and verve” is how the producer themselves describe it.
Now 20 years old this 2003 (one of the best vintage of the 2000s) is a perfect example of a mature Chardonnay that is ready to drink. It shows aromas of stone and orchard fruits, almond, tangerines and marmalade topped by a honeyed waxy element. Striking minerality builds with nice wrapper of acidity.
Critics have hailed Vine Hill as “California’s version of Chevalier-Montrachet”. Super rare and a piece of history.
We only have one bottle of this wine, sold to us by a collector who drank the other 11 bottles from his cellar.
