Greywacke is the family project of hallowed winemaker Kevin Judd, of Cloudy Bay fame. It is named after the greywacke river stones that can be found throughout New Zealand. Greywacke has a focus on quality and low-intervention winemaking, sourcing grapes from top vineyard sites and restricting yields to ensure maximum intensity and concentration of flavour. Greywacke’s flagship varieties are Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir, with limited releases of Riesling, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris.
Greywacke’s Wild Sauvignon has long been known for being a characterful expression of the variety, revealing layers beyond the customary green fruit and fresh herbaceousness. Fermented entirely with naturally occurring yeast, this is an alternative style of Sauvignon Blanc that is both intricate and textural with a rich, succulent palate finishing crisp and long, with a flinty character. Rich flavours of juicy lychee, ripe grapefruit and honeydew melon underpinned by fresh minerality and a touch of smoke. Many argue this is one of the top examples of Marlborough Sauvignon.
