Founded in the 12th century by Cistercian monks, Château de Jau is a historical Roussillon estate where olive trees, cypresses and vine share the land, surrounded by wild garrigue. The growing conditions here are ideal: bright sunshine, complex mineral-rich soils (limestone, clay and schist) and the influence of the Mediterranean winds which temper the summer heat and air the vineyards, ensuring healthy and perfectly ripe grapes.
OR-ANGE is their take on making a skin-contact Orange wine from estate grapes. This is a superb example of an ‘easier’ or less extreme version of orange wine. The skins of the white grapes are left for 10 days with the juice to extract the aromas in the grape skins. The result is tangerine, waxy orange scented wine, with exotic fruits, florality, notes of ginger root, herbal tea, and dried ginger spiciness. A superb, versatile food wine that is a left-field choice away from the conventional whilst still being delicious!
